Climate Exploration Hub is bringing you Botswana’s first Climate Hackathon, in partnership with the European Union and Botswana Government. The initiative is calling on young people to come up with sustainable business ideas that will address some pertinent climate change issues in Botswana’s context.

The Youth Climate Social Entrepreneurship Competition is inviting applicants to submit practical ideas that will have a social impact or be a solution for a community challenge. The competition seeks business ideas in the following sectors: Water, Energy, Agriculture and Health. The objectives of the initiative are to encourage involvement of young people in developing market related solutions to climate change, promote new ideas as well as to accelerate the implementation of The Paris Agreement and other Climate Change Agreement.

The competition is open for young Batswana aged 18 – 35, from across the country – from any background. The applicant should be passionate about climate change, social entrepreneurship and innovation. The deadline for submission is December 1st 2017. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a training programme that includes intensive development of solutions to the challenges within the priority sectors.

Selected participants will receive financial and non-financial support to test and implement their ideas. The finalists will be enrolled into a robust two months entrepreneurial training programme to prepare for pitching and idea implementation. This includes cutting coaching and mentorship, green business entrepreneurial training, accessing climate financing and networking opportunities.
