The countdown for the inaugural MTN Swaziland Music Awards (SWAMAs) has begun and excitement is in the air.

The awards have been on the road, hosting pre-shows across the country to raise awareness of local music and nominated artists. The SWAMAs main objective is to promote local music and recognize and reward artists for their work in a bid to encourage the growth of the entertainment industry in the country. The Chairman of the SWAMAs organizing committee Melusi Dlamini announced that they have clinched a deal with the nationa lbroadcaster Swaziland Broadcasting and Information Services (SBIS), where the latter would play 100 percent local music on D-Day Saturday August 5, 2017.
“We are very excited and extremely grateful to The President of SWAMA  Mr Lutfo Dlamini for his unlimited patronage and SBIS for agreeing to our proposal without any qualms whatsoever. In fact, the broadcaster has always taken a leading role in the spearheading of promotion of local music, and this move is historic,” said Dlamini.

Dlamini revealed that both SBIS1 and SBIS2 (SiSwati and English channels respectively) will play local music throughout on the day, to coincide with the awards night later that evening. SBIS will also provide coverage of the event to ensure that those who cannot attend the event do not miss out on the action.

Dlamini further noted that the stage will belong only to local artists on the night of the ceremony. “We can confirm that we will not engage any international artists for the MTN Swama Awards. We feel the time has come to celebrate local artists.”

The award ceremony will take place at Ezulwini, Convention Centre on Saturdaythe 5th of August, 2017 at 18:00pm. A great night of music and entertainment from performers is anticipated.
